I used Dreamhost since 2007 to host my 25 or so websites. When we first began, it was a great service, and their support was good. (Not fabulous, but good. )
In the past few years, the service has gotten less and less good, until the last few months when it became apparent to me that the tech support people were not actually paying attention to what I was saying. I speak very clearly, and yet, I was asking questions and getting answers to something other than what I was asking.
It finally reached the point where, despite the fact that it's a pain to leave a host, I had to do it, because it was taking several emails to actually convey my concerns to the company.
The last straw was when I once again was hit by a Chinese exploiter and once again, Dreamhost spent a lot of time telling me it wasn't their fault and very little time trying to help me.
I didn't care whose fault it is/was. I simply wanted it fixed and to find out how to keep it from happening again. The domains hit all used ONLY addons I got through Dreamhost, but that wasn't even the issue. The issue was how they keep getting in and how to stop it in the future.
I never did find out.
I have referred numerous people to Dreamhost over the years. In more than half the cases, the customer was moved from having my name as a referrer to DH being the referrer after my friends found out that it was cheaper to go with the NEW deal that DH was offering them once I got them to the site.
I wrote to DH and was told that it's not their fault that those whom I had referred to were unaware that I would not get the referral if they jumped ship for the better deal.
Oh, there is so much more, but I won't get into it all. The bottom line is this:
Dreamhost was once a fine service. That has changed, slowly but surely, over the past couple of years.
